Modern electronic key fobs provide more functionality and are more convenient in comparison to traditional manual keys. However, they require batteries that will eventually degrade over time and need to be replaced. If your Volvo key fob is beginning to work intermittently, that's an indication that the battery is failing and will require replacement soon.
There are simple steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. Choose a clean surface to work on. Then, lay out all the tools you'll need. Find the battery hatch, and turn it open using a flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery from its socket by lifting it up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
Place the new battery in the socket after the older one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is seated in all the clips. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring portion until it becomes loose and it falls off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. This can be used to unlock your car by the driver's side doors if the key fob battery is dead or missing.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with keyfobs that do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform useful functions, such as summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The brand new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine with the key fob buttons. But what exactly is it that works?
First, locate a clean surface on which you can lay out all the required items for this project. Then lay the fob on the work surface, with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Next you will need a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar tool to open the battery hatch to the open position. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces using your tools. This can cause the fob's mechanism to stop working properly.
After volvo car key has been opened, place the battery in its socket. Make sure the positive (+ side) is facing up. Once the clips are put in place Replace your battery cover and then reassemble your fob.
Pressing the unlock button a second time will deactivate the alarm and unlock the driver's side door. Pressing it again will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button is useful for opening the windows to let in fresh, cool air during a hot summer day. If you're looking for more than that, the key fob could also be used to turn on ERS, which will activate the system for controlling your vehicle's temperature and then warm or cool it to the preferred temperature setting when the vehicle is at a stop.

How to unlock the Hidden Key Blade
Volvo's key fobs have made a huge leap in recent years. Key fobs can be more than just a device to lock and start your vehicle. They can also lower the windows and provide a boost if needed. You'll first need to master using your key fob to maximize its potential.
The key fob in your car has transponder chips that are programmed to your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel the transponder chip reads the code and compares it to the one stored in the start inhibitor module of your car. If the codes do not match, your vehicle will not start. This is an essential security feature that stops your Volvo car from starting if you use the wrong key.
You'll have to take your key with you to a dealer to get it replaced. Your vehicle will also be programmed. This process can last up to 10 working days and cost you a lot of money. There is an option to reduce some of the cost by programming the system at home. You can find the required information in your owner's guide or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and lay your key fob on a clean surface. Press the grey button located in the upper right corner of your fob. The cover will open to reveal the CR2032 3V battery.
